Restorative Dentistry

As the name suggests, the primary role of restorative dentistry is to “bring back” the function (biting and chewing ability) of a tooth or teeth that have been damaged due to accident or disease as well as restore the look of the smile to a pleasing balanced appearance. Restorative dentistry normally occurs through the use of dental fillings, endodontics, inlays, onlays and dental crowns.

Dental Fillings

Initially, dental fillings were usually made using amalgam and sometimes, though rarely, with gold. Although these two metals were functional, efficient and durable, they were not aesthetically very pleasing. They did not exactly “blend in” with the surrounding teeth. Recent advancements in dental technology have provided dentists with new solutions: composite resins. This new material has comparable durability and life expectancy, yet it has the advantage of “colour compatibility” with the natural teeth. This simply means that they can be tinted to match your surrounding teeth, thus creating a virtually “invisible” dental solution.
